Trust me that the white chair here wasn't actually white. And, the leather sofas were horrendously stained. You can't see it here, so you'll just have to believe me.
Yes, they actually left that TV and VCR! Craziness. Where the TV was, we knocked out that wall to add another entrance into the kitchen.
We kept the barnwood ceiling through both the kitchen and living room. You'll notice the room is much more open and conducive for entertaining with the wall knocked out.
This is the view taken from the foyer entry into the living room. Those doors lead to the back porch.
Not sure if you can tell or not, but there's actually a double set of doors that span the back wall.
My favorite aspect of the room is the fireplace. I love that we removed the drywall (and mold that we found underneath!)
These chairs were some that Greg's parents were storing in our garage and we asked if we could have them recovered.
Books wrapped in linen along the back wall that sit on the console.
The chalkboard on the back wall was made with a leftover piece of plywood (it's smooth, so it's different than the kind you're probably thinking of) and some barnwood pieces from the barn originally on our property.

AMAZING. I think it looks awesome. Love the ceiling, fireplace, curtains, chairs and all the light you get from the double doors...simply gorgeous. Maybe a large plant in the corner behind the sofa/ beside the chalk board (which I love by the way). Love the space!
OMG this is awesome, i LOVE it to death, wish it was my living room
gorgeous! i LOVE your barnwood ceilings, those curtains are so pretty, and i think the chalkboard is super fun!
i want to live there!
I must say that, after this wonderful tour of the whole house, you should go into interiour designing!!! I absolutely love the colors you chose, the furnitures and the "embellishments" you used to make the home yours! It's BEAUTIFUL!!!
(wait..don't go into interiour designing, because then we would miss you at SC) :)
I love the curtains!!!! I really wish there were a place in my house that would require curtains, but alas, there is not!!!
The "floating" furniture works, April. It all looks great - especially the curtains.
Love the after...so beautitul!!!
Amazing transformation! I love the open airy and light!
let me wipe the drewal (sp?) off my chin first... ok. better. :) BEAUTIFUL. So you still have to share why that one board in the floor is parrell with the fire place! ... unless i missed the explaination somewhere?? THANKS for sharing!
I don't know why you don't care for the room, I think its sunny!!! I love it.
As always I don't have many questions because I am just in awe at everything but I do stand amazed at the before photos and your description April... I can imagine myself walking through the house before with you asking you, seriously? Why that? They left that? That's dirty, icky... And what were they thinking? I mean, I don't want to sound rude, but really? I have a hard time believing they left all that stuff and junk!!!
e.
Lovely home!
Wow! It's gorgeous!
your house looks amazing...what a transformation! Can you tell me what paint colors you used for the walls? We are slowly repainting our house since buying it and we're going for a neutral scheme, but I have yet to find a cream color I love. I don't want it to be too brown, but I still want it to show up against the white trim...so far the colors I've painted are too light.
oh my word. I love your style! what a transformation that knocking out the wall by the fireplace had! you definitely have an eye for decorating and design!
Your house is beautiful!
I am wondering why they left all of that stuff behind!! And what a mess to have to clean up!
