I get so overwhelmed when I go in to that aisle at Target that I just end up taking my kids Flintstone chewables. Hee! I of course am not planning on having any babies, but still being in early childhood and often working with pregnant moms, this is good stuff to know!Allyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02116748329593717640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-212719622964373671.post-12043522686681171622010-02-04T14:36:45.147-06:002010-02-04T14:36:45.147-06:00I really appreciate you sharing this piece April. ...I really appreciate you sharing this piece April. My 14 year old niece has spina bifida and is a bright light in our family. When I was trying to conceive, of course lots of folic acid was pushed my way as a preventative measure. I had no idea about the difference until right now. I luckily have 2 perfectly healthy little girls, but it's still information that would have been nice to know and I appreciate you getting the message out!Christahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08842631301394523174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-212719622964373671.post-68889431102695597672010-02-04T06:08:34.015-06:002010-02-04T06:08:34.015-06:00I think it's really cool that you're shari...I think it's really cool that you're sharing your journey. That's definitely been the way to treat in the past, but the more researchers learn, the more doctors are leaning to folate instead of folic acid. It's a slow conversion process, but one that would certainly save a lot of heartache if learned fasteraprilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11566026317825841659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-212719622964373671.post-2204246350586221612010-02-03T21:40:42.007-06:002010-02-03T21:40:42.007-06:00Hey April! I think this is very interesting that ...Hey April! I think this is very interesting that you are posting about this and I will tell you why. My first born, Andrew, was born with a cleft lip and palate. We don't know why he was born with it. Later we did genetic testing and basically it was fluke. After beating myself up about what I did wrong, I did research and found that the lack of folic acid is a contributor to this deformation. After going through 3 surgeries in his first year of life, Andrew is amazing. However, I have religiously taken a higher dosage of folic acid along with my prenatal with my other pregnancies. The next 3 children came perfectly healthy and no abnormalities. Anywho, thanks for sharing this with us. I think it is very important that women know this information. Have a great day!!Ashley Harrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03953903445479726690noreply@blogger.com
